چکیده

Daylighting has attracted increasing attention from researchers as an energy-efficient and sustainable building design technique. This research investigates the daylighting of atrium courtyard by comparing performance various Window to Wall Ratios (WWR) appropriate Malaysia's tropical climate. The most acceptable option for daylight was specify a moderate WWR value 30% with shading devices. results Radiance Simulations confirmed comparison calculated data modelling. findings show combinations parameters that work buildings occupants' wellbeing. Health and Wellbeing of Occupants in Highly Energy Efficient Buildings: A Field Study

Passive houses and other highly energy-efficient buildings need mechanical ventilation. However, ventilation systems in such houses are regarded with a certain degree of skepticism by parts of the public due to alleged negative health effects. Within a quasi-experimental field study, we investigated if occupants of two types of buildings (mechanical vs. natural ventilation) experience different...

Daylighting and hybrid ventilation in commercial buildings: Assessing window area, potential for electricity savings and daylighting performance

The main objective of this work is to develop a method for sizing window area based on the consumption of electricity in commercial buildings, when integration of daylight and artificial light with hybrid ventilation is considered. The method allows the estimation of the potential for electricity savings and the evaluation of the daylighting performance. Models operating with artificial and nat...

Sizing Skylights for Daylighting Landscaping in an Atrium

A major interior landscaping project is a central component of a proposed corporate headquarters. While interior landscaping is a significant part of many such projects, typical plant losses of 20-40 percent each year are not acceptable for this installation. The client is confident of their ability to control important factors to sustain plant growth such as soil, irrigation, and plant compati...

An Investigation into Energy Performance with the Integrated Usage of a Courtyard and Atrium

Offices and retail spaces are among the most energy-intensive building typologies. Designing office buildings without proper consideration of their form, orientation, envelope, and other variables can lead to a considerable increase in energy usage. This research investigates how integrated usage of an atrium and courtyard can improve a building’s energy performance. Thermal performance of both...
